What an ear cuff is

An ear cuff is an earring that needs no piercing. It sits on the upper ear, the helix or the rim of the ear and holds by its own shape — it springs, it hugs, it catches on the relief. A stud pierces the lobe; a cuff wraps around it. That is why a cuff covers the parts of the ear a piercing rarely reaches: the upper ear, the tragus, the curve of the conch.

It differs from a clip-on in mechanics. A clip-on pinches the lobe with a screw or a spring and presses over time. A cuff spreads its grip along the arc of the upper ear — it sits firmly without squeezing. One ear can carry several cuffs at once, and no piercing is needed for any of them.
