Silver Ear Cuffs Without Piercing: Fit, Forms and Care

In short. No piercing: an open curve grips the rim of the ear. In a STRUGA object, the inner curve sets the fit while visible mass, edge, and silver surface set its character. Oxidation darkens 925 silver before wear; contact points then brighten while recesses retain more depth. Of STRUGA cuffs, only the Brutalism Ear Cuff V.3 Dark Treatment (M) is darkened in advance; the others are uncoated Living Silver or matte carbon.

What is a silver ear cuff without a piercing?

Open curve, exact object, exact ear

  • An ear cuff is an open curved object for the rim of the ear. It passes over a thinner part of the rim and moves into the position intended by its form. The construction needs no piercing. Fit depends on both the geometry of the model and the ear, so the visible size of a cuff is not a universal ear measurement.

  • A cuff should remain in place through ordinary head movement and should not create painful pressure. If one position does not work, try the object slightly higher or lower without repeatedly opening the curve. Check the product page or ask STRUGA before reshaping a specific model.

A no-piercing cuff is defined by its open curve, not by a promise of universal fit. The curve passes over a thinner point and holds another part of the rim through model-specific contact. In uncoated or oxidized 925 silver, visible scale and surface character do not reveal the inner fit by themselves. The first two STRUGA ear-cuff forms were BLADE and SIGNATURE ASYMMETRIC, but that lineage does not turn later families into one shared geometry. Each current object keeps its own fitting rule.

How do you put on an ear cuff and check its fit?

Placement without force

  1. Find a thinner point on the outer rim of the ear.
  2. Pass the cuff through its opening without forcing it.
  3. Move it to the position intended by the form.
  4. Check the hold with a calm movement of the head.
  5. Remove it if it hurts or visibly compresses the ear.

Force does not improve the fit. The silver curve works through accurate contact. Repeated opening and closing changes its geometry. If the hold remains uncertain, verify the model, side, and position instead of continuing to bend the object.

Placement is a sequence of small checks. Start at a thinner point, move the opening onto the rim, then guide the cuff to the position intended by that model. A calm head movement checks hold; absence of painful pressure checks comfort. If either test fails, change position before considering any adjustment. Side, opening direction and intended place come from the object page. Repeatedly spreading the curve is not a fitting method because it changes the geometry that provides the hold.

Comfort and hold must pass together. A cuff that survives movement but creates pain has not found a successful position; a comfortable cuff that slips also needs a new position or model check.

How do STRUGA ear-cuff forms differ?

Family identity before visual intensity

Direction What appears on the ear What to check Live object, weight and price
BLADE Even planes and a cut line. Edge direction and its relation to other BLADE objects. Blade Ear Cuff (M), 1.6 g, $122
BRUTALISM Architectural mass and a broad plane. Visible width and position on the rim. Brutalism Ear Cuff V.1 (L), 3.8 g, $160
THORN A sharp metal form without a raw stone. Silhouette and safe orientation of projections. Thorn Ear Cuff (L), 2.6 g, $160
SIGNATURE ASYMMETRIC Non-mirrored forms that may work as a pair. Left and right side, set contents, and scale. Signature Asymmetric Ear Cuff (M), 1.6 g, $125

These names describe families and forms, not a universal scale of intensity. Exact material, set contents, and surface belong to the object page. The live range is in the ear-cuff collection.

Family names describe different formal languages, not grades of boldness. BLADE places an even CNC plane and cut line on the ear. BRUTALISM works through architectural mass. THORN carries the sharp metal form of CODEX and remains distinct from a raw-stone Thorn Amulet. SIGNATURE ASYMMETRIC uses non-mirrored relations. The table is therefore a reading map: exact side, contents, finish and scale still belong to the product. A collection image cannot replace those object-level fields.

The same ear position does not erase family identity. Plane, mass, thorn and asymmetry remain separate design logics even when every object is worn on the rim.

What happens to oxidized silver during wear?

Authored darkness and personal wear

  • Oxidation is a process used to darken 925 silver during making. It is not another name for Living Silver. Living Silver describes uncoated silver and its capacity to change; oxidation sets a dark starting tone. Both remain responsive to wear.

  • Friction gradually brightens raised areas and contact points. Recesses retain more darkness. The change makes the geometry easier to read. It is a property of the surface, not a defect. Restoring a more even dark tone or keeping the personal patina remains the owner’s choice.

Oxidation and Living Silver name different starting conditions. Oxidation deliberately darkens 925 silver during making; Living Silver describes uncoated metal that remains responsive to contact. Wear can brighten both, especially at raised and touched areas, while recesses retain more darkness. The resulting contrast reveals geometry rather than proving damage. The owner may keep that personal surface or request a more even dark tone, but cleaning must respect which darkness was authored and which developed through wear.

Surface change must be read on the exact object. Brightening at contact points follows friction; an even restoration of darkness is a separate workshop choice. Neither observation supplies a universal timetable for every wearer.

How do you choose one cuff or a pair?

Object role, side and set contents

Begin with the role of the object rather than a size letter. One cuff places a single point of weight on the ear. A pair builds a relation between both sides and may be matched or intentionally asymmetric. Then compare its visible mass with the rings, chain, or earring you already wear.

Before ordering, verify four fields on the product page: one object or a pair, left or right side, material, and intended ear position. If the page does not answer the fit question, send STRUGA a photograph of the ear and the model link. That is more precise than choosing from a collection photograph.

Every cuff is made to order rather than taken from stock. Silver cuffs run from $58 for the Blade Ear Cuff (S) up to $160 for L sizes. Carbon cuffs are $95, for example the Blade Carbon Fiber Ear Cuff — Classic Graphite. Silver takes about two weeks to make and carbon about four, plus transit.

Choose the role first, then verify the object. One cuff creates a single point of weight; two cuffs create a relation that may be mirrored or intentionally asymmetric. Compare visible mass with the rings, chains or earrings already in use, but do not infer fit from that comparison. The decisive fields are one object or a pair, left or right side, material and intended ear position. When those fields do not settle fit, a photograph of the ear plus the exact model link gives STRUGA a concrete question.

How do you care for a dark silver surface?

Care choices and the final check

Store the cuff away from objects that can scratch its edges. A dry soft cloth is enough after ordinary wear. Aggressive polishing removes darkness from raised areas, so it is not a neutral cleaning method. Ask STRUGA about the exact model before deep cleaning or restoring oxidation.

The workshop provides cleaning and minor repair without a labour charge while the object remains with its owner; inbound shipping is paid by the owner. Patina is removed only on request. Damage and fit are assessed from the exact object.

Care should preserve the edge, curve and intended surface together. A soft dry cloth removes ordinary contact marks without treating darkness as dirt. Deep polishing is not neutral on an oxidized object because it removes contrast from raised areas. The workshop can assess the exact object for cleaning, minor repair and fit; patina is removed only when requested.

In short
Fit Use the thinner rim point, intended position and a calm movement check; stop at pain.
Identity Verify family, side, set contents, material and the exact model rather than guessing from scale.
Surface Expect contact points to brighten while recesses retain more oxidation.
Care Use a soft dry cloth and ask STRUGA before reshaping, deep polishing or restoring darkness.

Frequently asked questions

Does an ear cuff require a piercing?

No. Its open curve grips the rim of the ear without a piercing.

Can I choose the size from my ear size?

A size letter often describes visible mass rather than a universal ear circumference. Check the rule on the exact model page.

Why do dark areas become brighter?

Raised surfaces and contact points burnish through friction while recesses remain darker.

Can I squeeze the cuff myself?

Only if a small adjustment is approved for that model. Repeated opening changes the curve; ask STRUGA when uncertain.

Where can I see the current forms?

The live objects are in the ear-cuff collection. Set contents, side, and material belong to each object page.
