Bali Silver Jewelry — Handcrafted 925 Sterling Silver from Our Workshop

Silver has been shaped on this island for over a thousand years. In the villages of Celuk and Gianyar, the craft passes from hand to hand — not through manuals, but through memory. Our workshop sits in this lineage.

Every STRUGA piece begins as raw 925 sterling silver — weighed, melted, and cast using the lost-wax method that Balinese silversmiths have refined across generations. There are no machines pressing out identical forms. Each ring, each pendant, each chain link carries the specific pressure of a human hand.

The Process

A piece typically moves through five stages in our workshop. It starts with a wax model carved by hand — this is where the design takes physical form for the first time. The wax is encased in a plaster mold, then burned away in a kiln, leaving a hollow negative. Molten silver is poured into this cavity under centrifugal force. Once cooled, the raw casting is broken free, filed, sanded, and shaped on the bench. Finally comes the finish — for most STRUGA pieces, this means oxidation: a controlled darkening that gives the silver its signature matte black surface, with polished edges catching light along geometric lines.

The entire process takes between two and five days per piece, depending on complexity. There is no shortcut that doesn't compromise the result.

925 Sterling Silver — Why It Matters

Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. This composition has been the global standard for centuries because it balances beauty with durability — pure silver is too soft for jewelry that's worn daily. Our silver is sourced from certified suppliers and tested before every production run. Every STRUGA piece can be verified by its hallmark.

Unlike plated or filled metals, sterling silver is the same material all the way through. It won't flake, peel, or reveal a different color underneath. Over years of wear, it develops a patina — a natural surface character that makes each piece increasingly unique.

Why Bali

Bali's silversmithing tradition dates back to the 9th century, when metalworking techniques arrived from Java and merged with local Hindu-Buddhist artistic practices. The village of Celuk became the island's silver center, a role it holds to this day. Working here means access to a depth of craft knowledge that simply doesn't exist in most industrial jewelry production hubs.

But there's a second reason. Bali's energy — the volcanic landscape, the ritual rhythms, the tension between ancient and modern — runs through everything we make. STRUGA wouldn't look like STRUGA if it were made somewhere else.

Bali Silver Jewelry — Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bali silver real silver?
Authentic Bali silver jewelry, including all STRUGA pieces, is made from 925 sterling silver — the international standard. Always check for a 925 hallmark to verify quality.

What makes Bali silver jewelry different?
Bali silver is distinguished by handcrafting techniques passed down for centuries — granulation, filigree, and lost-wax casting. Unlike mass-produced jewelry, each piece shows subtle variations that mark it as handmade.

How do I care for Bali silver jewelry?
Store in a cool, dry place. Clean gently with a soft cloth. For oxidized pieces like STRUGA's, avoid silver polish — the dark finish is intentional. Wear it often; silver looks best when worn.

Can I buy authentic Bali silver jewelry online?
Yes. STRUGA ships directly from our Bali workshop worldwide. Every order includes a certificate of authenticity and tracked express shipping.

What is Celuk village known for?
Celuk is Bali's historic silver village, located in the Gianyar regency. It has been the center of Balinese silversmithing since the early 20th century, with hundreds of family workshops producing handcrafted jewelry.
