Thorn Amulet Earring #12 — Aquamarine (S) | STRUGA

A raw aquamarine in the smallest Thorn Amulet — a pale blue crystal growing out of a silver torpedo. One mono earring, 3.9 grams of 925 silver, size S, Rp 2,850,000 (about $160).

S is the smallest of the three sizes in this line, and the proportion is what makes it: the silver body is short, and the uncut crystal continues well below the diagonal cut. The stone was chosen for its own shape and tone — pale blue, translucent, tapering to a point. 925 silver, handmade.

The surface is Living Silver: it arrives light and darkens on its own from air and skin — a property, not a defect.

An uncut, wild-grown aquamarine sits in the torpedo's diagonal cut without a setting and projects below it. The form is an homage to Daniel Arsham.

Earring #12 is sold. The stone grew wild and no two repeat, so this exact piece cannot be remade; we make one close in form, size and finish, with its own pattern and tone, in about two weeks.

Care: a soft cloth or silver-cleaning solution brings the metal back to the light; avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic baths so the stone is not harmed.

How it is made, and how it is worn

The form is modelled first — in 3D or in wax. A silicone mould is taken from that model, the silver is cast, and the master finishes the piece by hand before the stone goes in.

Nothing holds the aquamarine but the silver around it: no prongs, no bezel, no glue. The diagonal cut is opened to fit that one crystal, which is why the earring exists as a single piece — another stone of the same tone and length does not exist.

The earring is made of two parts. The upper one is a hoop drawn as a thorn, with four spurs and STRUGA engraved down the front. The torpedo hangs from it on a jump ring, so at 3.9 grams the object swings rather than sitting flat against the lobe, and the crystal is the part that moves furthest.

How it compares inside the Thorn Amulet line

One form runs through the whole line. What changes between objects is size, weight and price; the silver, the surface and the way the stone sits stay the same.

Five earrings in this line are darkened at the bench instead — for example the green tourmaline S, the same size as this one, which is black oxidation and stays dark from the first day. This one is bare silver: it starts light and darkens on its own, at its own pace.

Who it is for, and when

This is a single earring for someone who already wears one ear and wants the object, not the pair, to carry the look. Size S keeps the silver close to the lobe and lets the crystal do the reaching: up close it reads as a pale blue line under a piece of matte metal, and from two steps away it reads as a thin bright mark rather than a block. It works on a plain day, with a shirt and nothing else on that ear, and it works opposite a heavier piece in the other one.

Aquamarine runs through this line five times, and every crystal came out of the ground differently. The one in these photographs is the one that was sold — which is why an Amulet is chosen as a gift only for a person whose taste is already known: the stone cannot be matched again, and the choice cannot be corrected later.

The honest limit: this is solid silver with a raw crystal in it. It is not made to be slept in, not made for the pool or the gym, and the surface will not stay factory-light unless it is cleaned. The pointed end of the crystal is the thinnest part of the object and the part a knock finds first. Someone who wants a mirror finish that never moves will be better served by rhodium-plated silver than by this.
