SIGNATURE ASYMMETRIC is the first form of the brand and the language of the CODEX world. STRUGA began with it, and so did the project's central experiment: carry one form across different types of pieces — from a pendant to a chain link, a toggle clasp, a carabiner. The aesthetic came from cut sheet material: sharp edges, even planes, recessed depth. Today it is the most widely represented form in the brand, and the first two ear cuffs STRUGA ever made were made in two forms — this one and BLADE.

In the cuff the link stays open. The band is square in section, polished, its planes softly drawn together: one side long and straight, the other shorter and offset — that is where the asymmetry sits. The ends are cut on a slant and stand across a gap from each other; that gap is how the cuff goes on. STRUGA is stamped along the outer face of the long side, with the hallmarks beside it.

Size S is the smallest of the three. 0.5 grams against 1.6 for the M and 3.8 for the L: on the edge of the ear the link reads as a thin bracket and opens up in profile, when the light falls along the long face. A size like this leaves room next to it — higher up the rim of the ear, and in the lobe.

925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver. The surface is Living Silver, with nothing over the metal. The silver darkens with air and skin: shadow gathers in the cut ends, in the angles of the planes and in the recesses of the engraving, while friction lightens the long polished side. Patina is a property, not a defect; the metal can be brought back to light with care.

How it is made: the form is modeled first — in 3D or by hand in wax. A silicone mold is taken from the model and the silver is cast. The finished cuff is worked and polished by hand.

The three silver cuffs darken on their own — that is Living Silver. The two carbon ones are cut from layered sheet: flat, matte, 0.3 grams, and unchanged by time.

Who this cuff is for

The S is the way into the form: $58 against $125 for the M and $160 for the L, and 0.5 grams against 1.6 and 3.8. It is taken when a cuff on the ear is a first one, or when the silver should be read up close rather than from a few steps away.

It is also the size for a stack. 0.5 grams do not take up the whole rim of the ear: a second cuff sits above it, an earring in the lobe, a larger link from the same family below. In the photographs this cuff sits on the upper edge of the ear while a separate drop earring works in the lobe, and together they read as one line. If you want one visible object instead of several quiet ones, take the M or the L: the same link, 1.6 and 3.8 grams.

As a gift the S lands with people who wear little metal and have never had their ears pierced: no piercing is needed here, and the size suits any ear. What it is not: silver that stays bright on its own. This cuff darkens, and the cut ends go into shadow first.
