Are the tourmalines natural and uncut?

Yes. Each is set in the shape it grew in, not cut to a standard.

The silver will come close. The stone will not - each piece here was photographed individually because each stone is different, and a requested piece is built around a new raw stone, with its own pattern and tone.

Tourmaline is a boron silicate that grows in long prismatic crystals with a striated surface — and it comes in more colours than any other gem mineral. Green, pink, grey, purple, transparent, and achroite: the colourless variety, named from the Greek for "without colour".

Every piece on this page is built around a tourmaline that was never cut. The crystal is set in the shape it grew in, so the silver has to be made for that stone and no other.

Why the colour varies so much

Tourmaline's colour comes from trace elements caught during growth — iron, manganese, lithium, chromium. Change the trace, change the colour. A single crystal can shift hue along its length, which is why two stones from the same pocket read differently on the ear.

Twenty-five pieces here, and no two stones repeat. Twenty-one hold one stone each: seven green, seven pink, three grey, one pink-grey, one purple, one transparent, one achroite. The four Double Thorn earrings hold two each.

Every piece is numbered

Classic Amulet Earring #28, Thorn Amulet Earring #23. The number is the running count of that model — the twenty-eighth made, not the twenty-eighth copy. When a number sells, the stone in it does not exist twice.
