THE STORY OF THIS PIECE
AMULET — STRUGA earrings and necklaces built around raw, wild-growth stones. The amulets of this family differ widely — from quiet and classic, a Japanese reading of minimalism, to large and declarative. The most expressive is the THORN amulet: a halved-torpedo form with a crystal grown inside; an homage to Daniel Arsham.

A raw grey tourmaline held inside the medium Thorn Amulet — the darkened one of the two greys in the line.
The cone is cast in 925 silver in medium size and then darkened by controlled oxidation, so it arrives dark and stays dark: matte, close to graphite, with light caught only along the edges. A diagonal opening runs across the body and the stone sits inside it, recessed rather than standing out. Four short barbs stand around the opening, two to a side, and STRUGA is stamped on the flank. The clasp is a separate barbed link: it passes through the lobe and carries the cone on a jump ring. Handmade, one piece at a time.
The stone is a wild-growth grey tourmaline — uncut, unset, dark enough to read almost black until light finds a violet edge in it. Earring #14 holds the other grey of the line, but that one is bright Living Silver: the same stone, the opposite surface. This one weighs 5.4 grams against 4.9 for #14, so the darkened cone is also the heavier of the two.
Made this way: the form is modelled first, in 3D or in wax. A silicone mould is taken from the wax model and the silver is cast. The master finishes the cone by hand, darkens the surface, then picks the stone and seats it. This tourmaline was chosen for this body alone, and there is no second one like it.

Who wears it, and when
This is one earring for one ear, not half of a pair. It is for someone who already wears a single earring and wants the next object to be darker than the metal around it: next to a bright silver hoop or stud in the other ear, the darkened cone reads as a shadow rather than a match. The drop is short — the cone hangs just under the lobe and stays inside the line of the jaw, so it clears a collar or a high neckline instead of catching on it. At 5.4 grams it is felt on the lobe without pulling at it through a working day. It is worn most often with dark clothing and as the only object on that ear: the form is loudest when nothing else on that side competes with it.
