Bali Silver Jewelry: Why It's Worth Every Dollar

The Real Value of Bali Silver

Bali has been the silver capital of Southeast Asia for over three centuries. The village of Celuk alone has produced more handcrafted silver jewelry than entire countries. But not all Bali silver is equal — and knowing the difference between market stalls and a real workshop matters.

I'm Dmitry, founder and designer of STRUGA. I've spent years working directly with Balinese silversmiths, learning their craft from the inside. Here's what I know about Bali silver — and why it's worth your money when done right.

What Makes Bali Silver Different

Real Bali silver jewelry starts with wax modeling. A master sculpts each piece by hand from wax — every curve, every texture, every detail. The wax model is then cast in 925 sterling silver using the lost-wax method. After casting, the piece is filed, sanded, polished, and if there are stones — each one is set by hand.

This process takes 3 to 7 days per piece. Compare that to factory production where hundreds of identical items roll off a casting machine in an hour. The difference isn't just romantic — it's structural. Handcast pieces are denser, heavier, and more durable.

925 Sterling Silver: The Standard

The "925" stamp means the piece contains 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper alloy. This is the international jewelry standard — strong enough for daily wear, pure enough to not cause reactions. Anything less than 925 is not sterling silver, no matter what the vendor claims.

At STRUGA, every piece is 925 certified. We don't plate, coat, or use silver-colored alloys. What you get is solid sterling silver that develops a natural patina over time — darkening and becoming more beautiful with age.

How to Spot Real vs. Fake Bali Silver

Look for the 925 stamp. Feel the weight — real silver is heavy. Check the price — if a "silver" ring costs $5, it's not silver. And most importantly: ask about the workshop. Real Bali silver comes with a story, a maker, and a process you can trace.

STRUGA: Dark Silver from a Bali Workshop

We make dark minimalist jewelry — rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and ear cuffs. Every piece is handcrafted in our workshop in Bali using traditional techniques. Natural stones: tourmaline, aquamarine, black spinel, meteorite. No mass production, no shortcuts.
